Joint Legislative Task Force

More than 30 years ago, CalChiefs joined with the Fire Districts Association of California (FDAC) to form the Joint Legislative Task Force to better address the legislative needs of the fire service. With the assistance of Public Policy Advocates, the Joint Legislative Task Force reviews all California legislation introduced in the Senate and Assembly.

The task force consists of five voting members from each association. Nonvoting members serve as alternates and subject matter experts, reviewing bills prior to the task force’s monthly meetings and providing recommendations. During these meetings, the group discusses and determines recommended positions on each bill.

Once consensus is reached on relevant bills, the positions are presented to the respective boards for final approval. Throughout the legislative process, bills are continually reviewed for amendments and modifications, and positions may be adjusted as needed.

The Joint Legislative Task Force also partners closely with the Volunteer and Combination Chiefs, Tribal Chiefs, Metro Chiefs, the California League of Cities, and the California Special Districts Association. For more information, email calchiefs@calchiefs.org.
